As has become customary for our birthday celebrations, we’re extremely excited to bring you another compilation album featuring the cream of the North East crop.

The album is FREE to download from our Bandcamp page; today, we focus on Joy Atlas’ Notice It All.

Joy Atlas – Notice It All

Having recently supported Shields at their Sage album launch, and secured a high place on the bill at Evolution Emerging, Joy Atlas have certainly been busy! Notice It All is the embodiment of their sound. Stark synthesizers, dextrous and off-kilter beats, mathematical bass-lines, and generally enigmatic and technical song structures that cheekily toy with the rulebook. “Notice It All was our second single and we like to think it’s got a lot of the elements that we’re interested in when we write together.” They say.

Vocalist Beccy Owen uses her voice as a powerful instrument, enhancing the stark atmosphere of the song with lush harmonics that humanise the soundscape that is built out of urgent synth samples, whilst the mechanical beats are juxtaposed cunningly by Ged Robinson’s incredibly thinking-outside-of-the-box approach to drumming. Joy Atlas quite cleverly craft a sound that is decidedly unique, and almost certainly adds to the continuing diversity and variety of the music offered in the region at the moment.
