As has become customary for our birthday celebrations, we’re extremely excited to bring you another compilation album featuring the cream of the North East crop.

The album is FREE to download from our Bandcamp page; today, we focus on ako’s Bloodfrost.

ako – Bloodfrost

Electronic producer Simeon Soden is one of Newcastle’s finest emerging talents. Under the guise of ako, he explores the darker regions of electronic music and creates post-techno sounds that evoke a nightmarish retro vision of future dystopia.

In a live setting, his music is often accompanied by a range of surreal visuals, which coalesce with the dark, witch house rhythms and disjointed beats. ako’s compilation track, Bloodfrost, glitches and ticks like a doomsday clock before giving way to wonky modulated synth and a glistening loop of the Crystal Castles variety. Soden describes in even better detail: “Bloodfrost was influenced by Dead Fader’s heavy, melting sound of detuning analogue synths to create a subtlety jarring atmosphere. Like listening to a familiar song on an old stretched out tape that’s been baking gently in the sun on a warm dashboard.”
