Welcome to the ninth annual NARC. Compilation Album, curated to celebrate our birthday but also to shine a light on some of the amazing local acts we’ve come across. Head over to our Bandcamp site to download your free copy of the album featuring 17 tracks which veer from quirky alt. folk, riotous blues, aggressive rock, disco pop and plenty more besides. You’re welcome.

Shades continue their quest to subvert the post-hardcore genre on Duvaliant Thor, a track that’s as intriguing as it is uncompromising. Across little more than three minutes, the band manage to cram in face-melting levels of riffage, a cacophony of throat-bleeding screams and some seriously complex lyrical deft. And then it ends. No grandiose build-up or signals, just lead singer Ziggy and guitarist Rhys singing and screaming their lines as the rest of the band come to an abrupt stop. They may borrow from a variety of different rock sub-genres but they’re hardly just another run-of-the-mill post-hardcore band. Instead, they’re forging a niche for themselves as the thinking person’s aggressive rock band.
