In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, Eliot Smith Dance (ESD) has continued to place the safety and well-being of its audiences and all who work for the company at the forefront of its activities in these difficult and uncertain times. As a result, the company has adjusted its series of programmes to allow audiences to watch its performances via virtual and digital media.

According to Artistic Director Eliot Smith: “Right from day one of the first, and throughout the second lockdown, we wanted to continue to remain proactive despite these peculiar and challenging times…and to be honest we’re not doing anything different to what we’ve always done. We’re still undertaking and fulfilling our planned activities for each of the seasons, but this time under the catch-all name ESD DIGITAL, and we’re simply lifting the performances from the stage and placing them online. A recent highlight of this was the critically acclaimed Seacole + Nightingale documentary, to be followed in December by our Virtual Triple Bill.

At ESD we firmly believe that people still need access to the arts and culture, and that is evident from the increase in our online audiences, regionally, nationally and internationally. In this respect we are forever grateful to many individuals, companies, trusts and grant-makers for their ongoing generosity in support of ESD’s work.  Without them it simply would not be possible.”
It is intended that ESD DIGITAL will operate into 2021, working towards the company’s 10th anniversary celebrations later that year, so look out for an announcement in Spring 2021.
