The resident DJs tell us about the musical inspirations behind their Underground Afro, Tribal, Tech and House night taking place at ZEROX, Newcastle on Friday 18th November
Following a successful launch night Underground Afro, Tribal, Tech and House night Mambo Divino takes place at ZEROX, Newcastle on Friday 18th November. This free entry event kicks off at 10pm right through until 3am and sees resident DJ duo Kancho Club delivering non-stop tunes alongside live sax & percussion performances so you can dance the night away.
Here, Kancho Club tells us about some of the inspirations for the event…
Kancho Club was an idea birthed from our mutual love for Afrocentric/Latin-based house music and club culture. We created it as a way to perform the music we have fallen in love with and mixed it with our expertise for live instrumentation. Although widely represented around the globe, we felt that there was a gap in what we’re passionate about in Newcastle, and came to the conclusion that there was an opportunity to create something truly underground, inclusive, and fresh to the Newcastle dance scene. Thus, Mambo Divino was born.
It centers mainly around a monthly club night that we host at ZEROX, but is pushing the community element through artist spotlights, live DJ sessions, interviews and more.
In order to encapsulate the essence of Mambo Divino, we thought it would be a good idea to link tracks, artists and labels both internationally and locally to give you an idea of what we’re about. To get involved and join our movement, be sure to make it down to our next event on November 18th at Zerox and join/follow our social media pages to keep up with what we’re about.

Artist: Azula Bandit
Azula is South African Artist, who grew up in Newcastle from the age of 5. Mostly known for their dance skills, twerk business “Bounce with Bandit” Azula is a multidisciplinary Artist with a range of skills across the Art forms. With their current progression and focus on DJing Azula is on their way to becoming a top class entertainer. We first saw Azula DJing South African music genres Gqom and Amapiano and since then we’ve been hooked. “It’s always been important to me to stay dedicated to who I am, my culture and express that authentically. It’s easy to hit play but can you give people an experience and something to remember and I do with all that I do, especially with Amapiano”
As part of Spin City Crew, you can catch Azula in Newcastle’s Queer night Bend & Shake playing their Shake it up sets. Be on the lookout for their events Get Ur Freak On; a club night exclusively for Women and Non-Binory people with more events and works by them on the horizon.
Artist: AMÉMÉ
AMÉMÉ is a DJ/music producer based in Brooklyn, NY. His upbringing in Benin, West Africa, and more than a decade spent in New York has allowed him to develop a unique sound combining electronic, African and world music. We have a lot of time for AMÉMÉ and his tracks are a regular feature within our sets – you can check out one of our favourites below.
Artist: Pablo Fierro
Pablo Fierro is a producer, musician, DJ, born and raised in the Canary Islands. His music is tropical, electromagnetic, and powerful – often playing his live sets alongside a percussionist and all things Carnival. Fierro remains to be one of the most influential producers to us and alongside his record label and residency night in Ibiza ‘We’re Here’ inspires us to what can be created through Mambo Divino.
Label: Anjunadeep
Anjunadeep was Founded in 2005 by trance DJs Above & Beyond, and their manager James Grant. Anjunadeep began life as an outlet for records from the deeper, more progressive end of Above & Beyond’s club sets. Today, the label is one of dance music’s most respected imprints and champions all things melodic house, electronic, ambient and techno and more recently perforates the line between world, house and techno music. The quality of tunes this label puts out is truly next level and we would be amiss if we didn’t say it was a big influence on why we started Mambo Divino in the first place.
Label: Toolroom
Toolroom Records began in 2003 when emerging DJ/producer Mark Knight and brother Stuart Knight started the label. Quickly developing a fan base of professional and aspiring DJs, the label became synonymous with incredible House and Tech House. Championing artists such as Dombresky, Crusy & KEFFI they are integral in spearheading tech-house with a latin feel. They represent a harder side to the scene that we are extremely eager to explore, especially into the early hours of our club night.
