Born Standing Up is the fourth single taken from singer-songwriter Craig Clark’s upcoming second album, Bite the Modern World, due for release early in 2022. The track was recorded and mixed by long-time collaborator Chris McManus at Blank Studios.
Craig and the band return to the Cluny 2 on Saturday 19 September for an afternoon show, to celebrate the release of all four of his singles over the course of the year, and to preview more songs from his upcoming album.
Here Craig tells us more about what inspired the track…
Born Standing Up is really about overcoming the thing that’s been holding you back. The name comes from the title of an incredible memoir written by the comedian Steve Martin, and I guess the song follows a similar story: one of a neurotic performer growing in emotional maturity and control, realising that anything is possible and being brave enough to seize the chance to explore that potential, compartmentalising negative thoughts, and learning to appreciate and nurture the things in life worth being passionate about.
