Reliably informed

2015 is The Unthanks’ 10th anniversary year and has already been marked by some fairly notable events – the release of Mount The Air (one of their strongest albums yet), an orchestral performance on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage and now their own mini-festival.

Home Gathering sees them take over the impressive Stephenson Boiler Shop with an equally impressive line-up of friends and fellow travellers. There’s the reliably excellent Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra and The Baghdaddies from Newcastle, Scots folk from Alasdair Roberts, Orcadian folk from Twelfth Day (who provided strings on Mount The Air) and Paul Smith from Maximo Park DJing. To further remind us of how firmly steeped in the local folk scene they are, The Unthanks have also invited local rapper sword dancers and clog dancers, as well as 150 people who’ve taken part in their occasional Singing Weekenders. Not to mention a headline set from The Unthanks themselves, which is likely to be the highlight of a year which already has the feel of a victory lap. All this plus food and ale from local producers in one of Newcastle’s most remarkable and unique venues.

Home Gathering takes place at The Boiler Shop, Newcastle on Saturday 22nd August.
