Canadian electronica band Holy Fuck produce a euphoric and joyous show at Cobalt
For a group that have only played a handful of shows, Taang produce a confident and strident outing this evening. Dealing in hyper-melodic electronic music, they are a perfect choice of opener and perform with a purpose and intent that belies their newness. Reminiscent of late period Caribou, they rightfully captivate those lucky to be around early enough.
Lucia Tacchetti is a delight. Her polyphonic pop is bittersweet and romantic, and she melds the language of the avant garde into her poppiest moments seamlessly. Using a relatively limited set-up, she a testament to the power of a strong singular idea, unburdened by flab or excess.
Holy Fuck are greeted gratefully, and their hour of driven groove is a delight at breakneck velocity. Beautifully juxtaposing songs that have been embedded in collective consciousness for a while (Super Inuit and Lovely Allen, which was all over the 2012 Olympic coverage) with recent cuts, their irreverent, euphoric music is a consistent delight. A joy to behold.
