We find out more about Darlington’s Lhymes, ahead of their Stockton Calling show
Darlington’s melodic psych-influenced quartet Lhymes play the Whole Latte Love stage at Stockton Calling on Saturday 31st March. Here, we have a chat with the band to find out a little more about them…
Who are you and what do you do?
We are Lhymes and we’re an alternate four-piece indie psych band based in Teesside from Darlington. Ben Connor – Rhythm Guitar and Vocals, Kieran Elliot – Bass, Joseph Allen – Lead Guitar, Jack Haywood – Drums
What’s the first record you ever bought?
Ben – The first album that I actually bought was Chinese Fountain by The Growlers, which is only about four years old, this is only the case because my mam and dad have a mass amount of vinyl of which I have apprehended over the years, most importantly The Beatles.
Kieran – If we’re talking about actual vinyl records, the first ever record I bought was a limited edition original soundtrack to Jurassic Park (which I paid far FAR too much for)
Jack – The first CD I ever bought was Edward the Great which is an Iron Maiden greatest hits album, the first vinyl I ever bought was Black Sabbath’s first album which I still listen to a lot!
Allen – Hot Fuss. The first album by the Killers.
What’s your guilty pleasure musically?
Ben – A difficult question, I have a few…I think I’ll pop for ABBA, even though I feel no genuine guilt about it
Kieran – I’m a HUGE Disney fan, so anything Disney. I’m always singing the likes of Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, or the Little Mermaid whilst in the shower or doing the dishes
Jack – Peter Andre. All day every day
Allen – Lhymes
Favourite film of all time?
Ben – I would usually come straight in with The Shawshank Redemption which I think is a great film, but I’ve only recently watched Pulp Fiction, so I’d say it was a close call between those two! The soundtrack to Pulp Fiction is unreal as well.
Kieran – Jurassic Park
Jack – Lord of the Rings
Allen – Star Wars
Your guilty pleasure film?
Ben – Notting Hill. Again, no guilt for this one.
Kieran – Anything with Hugh Grant because he is so dreamy.
Jack – The Devil Wears Prada
Allen – Shrek 2
If you could recommend one TV series to binge watch, what would it be?
Ben – That Mitchell and Webb Look, I couldn’t even tell you how many times I’ve watched through the whole thing
Kieran – It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Jack – Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Allen – Peep Show
Your favourite book?
Ben – I must admit, I’m not an avid book reader, but if I had to choose one it would probably be The Woman in Black, some well written creepy literature right there
Kieran – A Dummy’s Guide on How to Play the Guitar
Jack – Lord of the Rings (again)
Allen – Lord of The Rings
Who or what makes you laugh the most?
Puns and Theresa May (Band Decision)
Who or what makes you sad?
Theresa May and dog rescue adverts (band decision)
If you had super power, what would it be?
Ben – Well, I think it would have to be Telekinesis, because, why not.
Kieran – Teleportation, so I can go on holiday everyday
Jack – Flight, it would make getting to practices a lot easier
Allen – Stop time, to meet my deadlines
And finally, you get to play a board game with any three famous people from history, who do you choose and what’s the board game?
Ben – My game choice would probably be Monopoly, it’s a great game and I would play it with John Lennon, Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix
Kieran – Hungry Hippos with David Attenborough, Richard Attenborough and their other brother, because I bet he’s sound as well.
Jack – Risk with Napoleon, Ghengis Khan and Alexander the Great, because I suck at Risk and need some tips
Allen – I would not play a board game with my three favourite famous people due to the fact I would be too upset when said ‘game’ had finished.
