Who are you?
Hi! I’m Jonathon Sabiston and this is my solo music project, going under the name of Wild Spelks.

What is it you do?
I’m a singer-songwriter, with the Wild Spelks project, I write, perform (vocals, guitars, bass, drums, keys) record, mix and master all of the music myself

How long have you been doing it?
I released my debut single ‘The Happy Places’ in April 2020. But I’ve been writing these songs for, in some cases, many years.

What inspires you?
Musically, I’m inspired by a lot of different artists. Beach Boys, Weezer, Prefab Sprout, Jimmy Eat World, Daniel Johnston to name a few. I’m also driven and inspired by people who use their platform to discuss mental health, that is something I continue to do online, as I feel having the discussion, is so helpful.

Tell us about your music.
I’d say Wild Spelks has elements of post-punk, pop, punk rock and alternative rock. It’s a style that no matter how hard I try, I’m always drawn to, so for Wild Spelks, I chose to just let it happen and see what the result was, I’m happy so far!

What have you got coming up in the future?
Turn It Around comes out 27.10.20, which I’m so excited about. Followed by a music video that is really special. After that, I’ve got a few more singles to go and then I’m hoping for an EP towards the end of 2021
