Who are you?
I’m Ty Lewis, a nineteen-year-old singer/songwriter from Billingham.

What is it you do?
I sing, I play guitar and keys, and I also write and produce – so a little bit of everything really.

How long have you been doing it?
I’ve had a love of music for my whole life, and grew up listening to music 24/7. I always had a passion for music, but I really started following my dream when I was ten. From there, I started gigging with my guitar when I was about fourteen, and that’s when my career in music kicked off, I guess!

What inspires you?
I feel like I’m very much inspired by music as a whole. No matter where I am, I’ll be playing music or singing – it’s probably a bit annoying – so I’m always taking inspiration from my favourite songs and artists. I think in terms of songwriting, I like to take a situation that’s happened to me personally and then dramatise it to the point where it’s interesting enough for a song, or I’ll take something I see on a TV series or a film and write something inspired by what I’m watching.

Tell us about your music.
My debut single, Used To Be is an emotional, soulful ballad that tells the story of heartbreak. I won’t give too much away, but I feel like most people who listen to it can relate to the song and really feel something from the track. People always tell me I have a really raw tone that can really embrace the emotion in what I’m singing and I feel like that translates through the recording in ‘Used To Be’. Growing up, I listened to a lot of old school R&B/Soul, and that’s continued to now – I really love artists like Giveon, The Weeknd, H.E.R., and Frank Ocean, so I definitely have a bit of that soulful influence in the track, but I’d love to explore that further in my future projects – so keep an eye out!

What have you got coming up in the future?
Obviously the future isn’t certain with Coronavirus being a big issue, but in a world with no virus, I’d definitely want to be back playing gigs and shows. I had a headline show planned in October, but it didn’t go ahead (for obvious reasons) so I’m still waiting for the right time for that, but who knows? Maybe people will really love ‘Used To Be’ and who knows where that could take me? It’ll be music though, wherever I am, I’ll never stop music.

Where can people find out more about you?
I’m on all social media @tylewisofficial (except TikTok, which is @tylewisofficial_) – so go ahead and follow me there. I’m also on Spotify, Apple Music, etc, so if you click the link below, you can listen to my debut single ‘Used To Be’ and give me a follow over on there!
