We find out all we can about the Newcastle indie outfit ahead of the release of their new single, Corals (out 18th November)
Who are you and where are you from?
We’re the Ilfords, an alt/indie rock band out of Ilford Road, Newcastle.
What is it you do?
We play music to people whether they like it or not.
How long have you been doing it?
We’ve been mates for a long long time and the band’s been going for about a decade now (we started young) but we’ve only really properly kicked back off in the last year or so after a break for university.
What inspires you?
Playing the music we like with the people we like to the people we like even more.
Tell us about your music.
We take influences from all over the place, but our sound is somewhere between Foals, Arctic Monkeys, The Maccabees and Palace. We had the time of our lives touring the UK over the summer selling out shows all over the gaff – live shows are definitely the Ilfords’ biggest strength. Get yourself down to one.
What have you got coming up in the future?
Our newest single, Corals, recorded with Andy Bell down at Blast Studios in the Ouseburn, is out November 18th – we’re heading over to Merseyside to get another track down on the 23rd and we’ve got some exciting shows lined up all over the place around Christmas and in the new year. Stay tuned.
