Who are you and where are you from?
We are a Tyneside-based indie-rock band called Sirocco. There are four of us: Josh (lead guitar), Lewis (lead singer & rhythm guitar), Will (bass), and Aaron (drums).

What is it you do?
We try to write songs that incorporate our diverse music tastes and influences and hope that they connect with others. Our most recent song ‘Be My Saturday’ was released 2 April, so is still pretty fresh. Other than writing, recording and releasing music, we also love to play live – so we’re really excited for the return of live music to get that live buzz again and crowd interaction.

How long have you been doing it?
We formed Sirocco in 2018, but individually we’ve all been playing for a lot longer: Lewis got his first guitar roughly when he was eight, and Josh first picked up guitar around seven. Will has been playing bass for nearly four years now, and Aaron has been drumming since he was thirteen.

What inspires you?
We have a broad, eclectic mix of influences, which feeds into our sound. For Josh it’s bands like Oasis, The Jam, The Smiths, and The Stone Roses. Lewis likes Royal Blood a lot at the minute, but frequently has a new favourite band each week. Will and Aaron have a diverse taste too. Together we listen to all sorts really – it might be a bit cliché, but we genuinely listen to all sorts, such as: classic rock, jazz, pop-punk, heavy metal, folk, latin, punk – we think it all comes together to form a sound that identifiable with us.

Tell us about your music.
We think our music blends a good mix of different styles and genres, giving it a broad appeal. Our music is pretty upbeat with lots of energy – we think our recent single captures our sound well. If we dissected our songs a bit it’d probably be that Will has always got his melodic Beatles-esque basslines; Aaron has a class, heavy drum sound; Lewis has a big power chord rhythm-guitar approach, and Josh has classic pentatonic lead guitar lines.

What have you got coming up in the future?
We have an outdoor gig at The Cumberland Arms, Newcastle on 31 May, and we have a tour to announce for later in the year too – we can give a sneak peek of some of the cities we’re playing which includes London, Stoke, and Newcastle. For the Newcastle gig, we’ll be playing The Cluny on Saturday 11 September – it’ll be a class hometown gig for sure! In terms of music releases, we have more to share soon – possibly an EP, depending on how the writing pans out, but certainly some more singles.
