Who are you?
LKP, DJ and vocalist and veteran of Newcastle’s RnB and hip hop club scene. Currently, I am recording and performing as half of PSiMiTAR with Steesh, and we have found some great support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing and other specialist DJs, and we are making some positive moves in the UK RnB and hip-hop scene.

What is it you do?
I sing, write and play music. I have been lucky enough to do some pretty cool stuff over the years and have had some very unexpected opportunities. I have appeared on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra under various guises as a vocalist and DJ, sung with Take That with VOTT choir, had music signed to Renegade Hardware, and DJ’d with some huge names including Jazzy Jeff and Grandmaster Flash.

How long have you been doing it?
I have been performing and Djing for what feels like a very long time, but we have only been doing the PSiMiTAR thing since the start of 2020. We have worked together on some great projects in the past, but this one is sitting exactly where I want to be musically right now. Lots of keys, a proper groove and it fits well into all the music that I love to play.

What inspires you?
I try to find inspiration all over the place. I listen to a lot of different music, from pop, to rap, jazz, soul, dance music and my taste is wide-ranging in terms of era too. I live at the beach, so I like taking influence from my surroundings.

*Tell us about your music. It takes influence from a lot of modern artists like Mac Miller, Kaytranada, Anderson Paak and Tyler The Creator, but I like a lot of artists like Dwele, D’Angelo, Musiqsoulchild and other 90’s / 00s RnB acts, so I suppose I put a lot of that into vocal performances as well. I also perform as part of a duo doing covers, and that has been a real source of inspiration and a confidence builder too.

What have you got coming up in the future?
We have a new single out 24th April, Someone Like You, which is the follow up to Superficial which smashed it to be honest. We knew it was a good song with potential but to get the support it did from national radio, BBC Introducing and to get playlisted and supported by an act as respected as Brasstracks was a huge plus. Hopefully the new single can pick up where that left off. We have good support from DJCity worldwide and you guys again, and the amount of live streams going on means we might even get some more great exposure. We have another batch of singles lined up for the year, and a full length project in the pipeline too. I have an online radio show now too, on TRHY Radio on Mixlr (Sundays 8-9pm), playing loads of music I like and probably a load of PSiMITAR influences too.

Where can people find out more about you?
The PSiMiTAR socials are mainly the usuals, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. As DJ LKP, I’ll be live streaming a lot over the time we are in lockdown, which will mainly be on Twitch and FB live, so keep an eye out for those links.
