Reliably informed

The musical masterminds behind NOPRISM release their new single, SPHERE/LISBON and so we find out more about them.

Who are you?
We’re Andrew Young and Mark Nelson. An Indie/electronic pop duo from Newcastle.

What is it you do?
We’ve been in bands before purveying various shades of darkness and angst. We wanted to do something different, so spent last year writing big, daft pop songs with a bit of soul.

How long have you been doing it?
We’ve been doing NOPRISM behind closed doors for 12 months. We had a load of ideas lying around and decided to get off our collective arses and put some music out. We basically locked ourselves in a room and studio for 6 months and recorded this batch of songs. Ironically, only about 2 of the songs we started with have actually made it to this point, hence the aforementioned 12 months part.

What inspires you?
Anything with saxophone and a kinky slapped bass

Tell us about your music.
It’s a mix of synth-pop, electronica, funk, house, and post-rock indie elements. We tried to set ourselves no rules and allow ourselves a few guilty pleasures. If it sounds good, stick it in. There are some ridiculous parts in some of these songs, but we feel it all adds to the charm.

What have you got coming up in the future?
We are always writing and just want to keep putting music out. We will be releasing something every month to 6 weeks for this year. Live-wise we will be playing at Little Buildings on May 2nd and many more gigs will follow. The live show will be a bigger affair than just the two of us. We want to make it sound big. We’ll get around to putting these on our website at some point, but likely best to follow us on Facebook, like everyone else does.

Where can people find out more about you?
Check out our Instagram, there’s plenty of pouts and good vids. Facebook page and YouTube for new music and live shows. Oh and twitter too.. We tweet like every 6 months and pretty much as entertaining as watching paint dry on there so we won’t obliterate your Twitter feed.
