Who are you and where are you from?
Hi, I’m Neil and I’m from Whitley Bay

What is it you do?
I am an up and coming Synthwave artist/producer.

How long have you been doing it?
For around a year. I started off teaching myself music production throughout the first lockdown, and by the summer I’d discovered and fell in love with Synthwave and really fancied having a crack at that. For those who are unfamiliar with Synthwave, it’s a really nostalgic throwback genre that is bringing the sound of the 80’s into a modern setting.

What inspires you?
I always say that for me, making music has been more about creating emotion and enjoyment for people to emulate how I feel when I listen to music. The thought that there are some people out there who take something away from the music I have created is what inspires me and keeps me wanting to do it. In terms of artist inspiration.. My biggest influences have always been Iron Maiden, which may sound odd when you try to apply that to Synthwave but if you listen to my music you’ll probably hear why. Other artists that influence and inspire me are the likes of NINA, PYLOT, The Midnight etc.

Tell us about your music.
My music, despite being Synthwave is quite guitar driven. It’s packed with guitar harmonies, melodic synth and the occasional chunky riff. It’s been a wonderful journey so far. My first two releases were picked up by a record label called Red Manor Records to be used on physical Synthwave compilations, and as a result they took me on as an artist on their roster.

What have you got coming up in the future?
My latest track Mother Mania is a collab that I’ve done with outstanding breakthrough retrowave artist ELYXIR from Melbourne, Australia. It’s a high octane guitar driven 80’s track combined with a potently catchy melodic topline. I contacted ELYXIR to see if she would like to sing on it, and she instantly replied saying she loved it. She had free reign with the lyrics and vocal melodies, and what she came back with absolutely blew my mind, and I knew we were on to something special. She has been an absolute dream to work with, already developing a strong rapport with people in the Synthwave scene and is a complete professional. We compliment each other so well musically and we’ve become good friends through this. We can’t wait for people to hear it.

Mother Mania releases on Wednesday 28th July

Where can people find out more about you?
I have all the usual socials which can be found here.
