We find out all we can about Middlesbrough’s alt. country indie pop duo
A self-proclaimed “handsome, kind-hearted and self-producing songwriting duo” comprised of Corey Bowen and Charlie Glazebrook, Middlesbrough’s alt. country/indie pop duo Modern Rodeo follow up a handful of singles with new release, Ready When You Are, in advance of their EP in January. Here, we find out a bit more about them…
Who are you and where are you from?
We are Modern Rodeo from Middlesbrough
What is it you do?
We are a songwriting duo and recording project made up of multi-instrumentalists Corey Bowen and Charlie Glazebrook
How long have you been doing it?
We have been playing music together for years and years but made the decision to put our efforts into writing ‘proper’ songs as Modern Rodeo at the back end of 2022.
What inspires you?
Musically we are inspired by so much stuff; mainly classic songwriters like Jim Croce, George Harrison and Paul Simon. Outside of musical inspiration we are very inspired by self-sufficiency which is why we record and produce everything ourselves at home on our own terms.
Tell us about your music
There are a couple of things that make up our working ‘mantra’; the main one is that we don’t play live. Neither of us have any real interest in performing so making the decision not to gives us freedom when recording and allows us to write and record without the constraints of worrying how we will recreate it live. I (Corey) am trying to forge a career in ghostwriting and Charlie wants to write the music for soundtracks so, whilst Modern Rodeo will always exist and be active, playing music live and being in a band isn’t really the goal for either of us.
What have you got coming up in the future?
We have a big bank of songs that nobody has heard yet, some quite old, so we’re just getting round to releasing them to the world. Our first EP Vol. 1 will be coming out at the beginning of January with the plan to keep releasing music regularly and then do a really self-indulgent and overly long album at some point in 2024.
