Who are you?
I’m Lizzie Esau from Newcastle Upon Tyne.

What is it you do?
I am a singer songwriter who loves collaborating with others to make interesting music! I enjoy creating toplines on dance tracks and working with producers to develop catchy vocal melodies over their music. As well as this I also love writing parts of the music myself too, especially on keys, and thinking of new and challenging themes I can discuss in my lyrics.

How long have you been doing it?
I think I wrote my first song when I was about 5! I’m not sure how great it was, but It’s always been something I’ve had great fun with from a very young age. I started learning piano at the age of 6 or 7 which really engaged me in the music side of it too and my writing started to develop from there!

What inspires you?
Many simple everyday random thoughts or phases inspire me to write more conversationally, like I’m chatting to a friend when I’m singing. This is something that occurs more when I am writing alone or jotting some song ideas down that I have throughout the day. When writing for and with others a great beat inspires me and lifts the energy of my writing which I really enjoy!

Also, many other artists up and coming in Newcastle inspire me and give me motivation, as well as the established artists that I look up to such as Jorja Smith, London Grammar, HAIM, Dua Lipa and Many more.

Tell us about your music.
My music is essentially alternative pop with electronic and funk elements to it. As I continue to work with other artists, DJ’s and producers I feel my sound constantly evolving and changing and I’m excited to see what future collaborations hold for me! Lyrically I love being conversational (as stated above) and I am very inspired by rappers such as Dave as well as songwriters that create new scenarios and stories with captivating lyrics such as Imogen Heap.

What have you got coming up in the future?
On the 13th of November I have my debut single ‘Young Minds Run Blind’ which is released onto all major steaming platforms! (If you’re reading this after that date feel free to have a listen!) As well as this I am constantly collaborating with DJ’s and other writers so there are always very exciting things going on that hopefully people will be able to hear in the next year. As well as this, in 2021 I’m hoping to do lots more live performances so keep an eye out for those too!
