Who are you?
My name is J.Spinkz & I hail from the outskirts of Sheffield but have currently been living in Newcastle Upon Tyne since 2017. I am also known as Medicine Man although currently all music I have released has been under the name J.Spinkz.

What is it you do?
First and foremost I am a rapper but I really enjoy writing spoken word pieces & poetry as well. I also produce hip hop/grime Instrumentals under the pseudonym ‘MEDDOG’.

How long have you been doing it?
I have been writing lyrics since the age of 17, mainly as a way to get out all the things I was feeling & as a way to deal with the troubles I had in life but it was only at the age of 26 when I started taking it seriously and actually went to a studio to record, this was due to meeting other rappers who pushed me to believe in myself more. It was also around this time that I started to produce my own instrumentals.

What inspires you?
The short answer would be life in general. I find I struggle to write about stuff that I’ve not lived through or seen myself, so pretty much everything you hear in my music is a story from my life, which truth be told makes releasing music quite scary as I am literally putting my life into lyrics & then releasing them world for the world to hear. My friends are another massive inspiration to me, especially Too Common & Eddie, both fellow rappers from Yorkshire who live up in Newcastle as well. We spent a lot of time working closely over lockdown & they have pushed me to be the best version of myself both personally and musically.

Tell us about your music.
Personally I would say I’m quite a conscious rapper, speaking about real life topics & struggles that I have faced. For example the latest project I released back in June, ‘INK’ (which can be found on my Soundcloud) is 7 tracks all about my past relationships & breakups.

In my latest single ‘RODMAN’ I speak about the loss of a close friend & how it affected me while also trying to chase my musical dreams with a close team of good people around me.

What have you got coming up in the future?
My next single ‘RODMAN’ drops on all streaming platforms on 15/10/20 which I am extremely excited about as it is the first track I am releasing where I have both written and produced. After that I have a remix of XXXTentacion’s I Spoke To The Devil In Miami coming out later this year & I am also currently putting together a Instrumental project to release at the start of 2021.
