Who are you and where are you from?
I’m Ian Morgan from Whitley Bay but my mates call me Igg – I’ve been called that since I was 4 years old!

What is it you do?
I write, rap and produce most of my own beats, self-described as ‘Meta Boom Rap’, just to try and sound intelligent.

How long have you been doing it?
I’ve been writing and recording stuff since I was around 15 years old. It was hilarious; I had this budget PC software called ‘Magix Music Maker’ or something like that and a £20 Numark DJ mic. Fortunately for everyone I never put anything out seriously until a few years ago – I can’t imagine how cringe those early recordings would be to listen to!

What inspires you?
It varies from song to song, but generally speaking I’m interested in psychology, history, metaphysics, Taoism, nature, the relationship we have with technology and social media, and basically any topical or personal issues that I think are worth talking about. Oh, and cats. Actually mainly cats.

Tell us about your work/music.
I call it Meta Boom Rap as it’s kind of inspired by throwback Boom Bap Hip-Hop from the 90s but with a modern twist. I improvise quite a lot as I don’t have any sort of classical music training, so that involves bashing a keyboard like a monkey on a typewriter and looking for random objects to use for trippy, unusual sample sounds. I like to address cheery subjects that I don’t feel are being discussed enough and just try to be as honest as I can with anything I put out.  I always say, as long as it was authentic and real at the time, then it’s valid, even if a year down the line your views have shifted a bit. The latest single, Somewhere In The Middle, was originally about maintaining balance but (ironically) morphed into a fairly raw expression of my state of mind in what was a particularly rough time during the last year.

What have you got coming up in the future?
I’ve got another single, You Put Yours Down First, coming out in the next few weeks which is about nuclear disarmament but (again, ironically) makes me want to fight someone. I’ve also been doing some production work for other artists and I’m working towards releasing my first proper full-length album by the end of the year.

Where can people find out more about you?
You can find me on Facebook – @IggUK and Twitter – @IggMusic. And also in my house.
