We find out all we can about the Sunderland singer-songwriter who is set to release his next single, COLOUR, via sandwich
Who are you and where are you from?
You’ll find me under CP Thompson, but my pals call me Chris.
What is it you do?
Music is what I put my name to but I mainly post memes on my Instagram stories.
How long have you been doing it?
On and off since I was a kid! I used to rewrite Disney songs and I tried to start a pop band in year 5 but nobody was into it.
Got my first guitar in my early teens, or rather my Dad’s. Have been in bands since school, I’ve always loved it.
I’ve been doing CP Thompson for under a year but I’m about to release my second EP. Take that, COVID!
What inspires you?
I don’t think you really know until you see it! Sometimes it’s excellence and sometimes it’s great sadness. Songwriting is peanuts. Sometimes it’s peanut butter, and you have to laboriously scrape around the jar to get the most from it. Sometimes it’s salted peanuts, you can comfortably down a bag after you’ve had a couple of drinks. Sometimes two bags.
Tell us about your music.
I like writing songs, I want to make music that sticks. I really do love writing pop songs but they always have a kind of rockier feel to them — I play guitar and a bit of drums so I love going in the studio and doing a Be Here Now, without the cocaine, just going for it.
What have you got coming up in the future?
On Monday 20th September, my next single COLOUR is being released… on sandwich.
I’m teaming up with Robson’s of Sunderland, a local butcher, for the CP Dip. A traditional savoury dip with a twist. It also contains an exclusive code to my new single.
I’m obviously excited to release the single but this is genuinely a delicious tasty sandwich and you don’t want to miss it. Limited-time only thing here, don’t wait around.
I’m also releasing my EP next month on 15th October. It’ll be marked with two trans-Tyne-Wear shows at The North Terrace in Newcastle, and The Mountain Daisy in Sunderland, supporting beardy Canadian post-hardcore outfit The Faps!
Where can people find out more about you?
Honestly, check me out on Instagram, I really can’t keep up with anything else. I’m on there every day, I’ll get back to you, let’s just be friends.
