Who are you and where are you from?
Hi! My name is Chris Kelly and I am a singer-songwriter and guitarist from Northumberland. Nice to meet you!

What is it you do?
I write and perform songs that mostly tend to be a bit sad but who doesn’t love a sad song every now and then?

How long have you been doing it?
I began playing guitar when I was 7 (I’m 24 now) and immediately fell in love with it! The singing and writing came later when I was a teenager and my music teacher (who had taught me for years at this point and knew full well that I did not sing) asked me to sing in class and it all went from there. I started performing and releasing music with my first band, Blind Buffalo, when I was 16 but made the switch to a solo artist in late 2016 and have been doing that ever since.

What inspires you?
My music is mostly inspired by my own life experiences as I guess I’m the best qualified to tell those stories. I am also much better at explaining my thoughts through song as opposed to a conversation so I also find the experience very cathartic.

Musically, I am hugely inspired by songwriters who focus on telling real stories about real people such as Tom Petty, Brian Fallon and Sam Fender. I find that their relatable song-writing helps build a picture in my head of what the song is trying to convey which makes it a much more rewarding listening experience. This is something I try to emulate in my own work.

Tell us about your music.
I’ve spent years trying to answer the whole genre question and still struggle with it now. Right now, I just describe myself as an indie singer-songwriter because that covers most bases but there are definitely elements of rock, folk and Americana in my music.

What have you got coming up in the future?
I have a new single called When It Rains coming out on August 6th! This is my first release since my debut EP, Letters To You, in 2018.

I wrote the song during the first lockdown last year and it was recorded remotely in February this year. It was a very strange experience to say the least considering I haven’t seen any of the other musicians who performed on the track since before the pandemic and I’m yet to actually meet the producer in person due to lockdown.

I’m also really looking forward to getting on a stage again and performing for people for the first time since the pandemic began. I have a few things booked for the summer and will be announcing them soon!

Where can people find out more about you?

You can also find all of my music, including the new single When It Rains from August 6th, on all major streaming and download platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon etc.). You can Pre-Save Here.
