We find out all we can about the singer-songwriter and musical collaborator as she releases her debut single, Soak
Who are you and where are you from?
Joanna Wolfe (aka Blue Lupin). I’m based in London, grew up in the Midlands and work a lot with people in the north of the UK and in Nashville USA! So the project has been all over the place from day one which I love!
What is it you do?
I started this project out of a need to write songs rather than a desire to, in my mind I had given up on creating and releasing music but thankfully the space that was made in my life and my schedule in 2020 made way for new creative expressions and was a real time of healing for me creatively and musically. The project is collaborative, I worked on these first four songs with a friend Joe Hammill and working with the producer Owen in Nashville was such a lovely collaboration too.
How long have you been doing it?
I’ve written music for about 10 years (with some breaks in between) but started the Blue Lupin project in April 2020.
What inspires you?
Mostly art, I love photography, films, books, poetry and the beauty in the mundane things of life like people watching or even just taking some time away from my phone I find fills me up creatively.
Tell us about your music.
Blue Lupin is a project born out of a creative craving and my hope with it is that other people will be moved or inspired to create themselves. My favourite music is stuff that moves me, surprises me and inspires me – most often Radiohead and Big Thief/Adrianne Lenker.
What have you got coming up in the future?
For now I’m trying to enjoy this moment, releasing these songs that have been such an important part of my journey over the past few years, and hold onto that. As long as I’m enjoying wherever I’m at in the process and still being creative then I’m happy! I’d love to bring them into a live setting too.
