Reliably informed

We’ve been catching up with some of BBC Music Introducing in The North-East‘s top picks for 2021 to get to know them more. Next up is DIY Duo Badmind.

Who are you?
We are Badmind, a two-piece pop/R&B band.

What is it you do?
Well Dayna Leadbitter is a singer and songwriter and Jaimie Johnson is a producer and drummer. We take a completely DIY approach to everything we do from our music and production, our photos and videos and our branding.

How long have you been doing it?
We’ve been doing music for a long time but Badmind officially launched in March 2020. Throughout 2020 we released 7 singles ending with a release on NYE which the song ‘100 Roses’ ended up being put into the New Music Friday Spotify Playlist which is not a bad way to start 2021.

What inspires you?
Everything inspires us. I don’t think it can be put down to one area or thing. Everything from music, film, comedy, art, design, social media, people, pyschology.

Tell us about your music.
Our music is just a reflection or expression of how we are feeling or what we are vibing to at a particular time. That’s why all of our releases this year have been sonically different to one another. We are influenced by so many different artists and different sounds that I don’t think we’ll ever just do one thing. The curiosity of learning about what makes a particular sound or learning about the history of a musical culture whether it be R&B, trap, dance, pop is what keeps us interested.

What have you got coming up in the future?
We are currently working our way through a bunch of demo’s we’ve been making for 2021 and still continue to write and produce new music. As soon as the world opens back up we want to be touring and bringing the recorded songs to life alongside a couple incredible musicians we know.

Where can people find out more about you?
You can find us online by searching for badmind or badmindmusic on any of the platforms, we should come up.
