A big moment of heartbreak for the North East music scene in 2018, was the passing away of much-loved musician Aran Glover. A celebration of his life and legacy fronting the band We Are Knuckle Dragger and other musical projects has been organised to take place at Cluny 2 on Saturday 12th January.

All funds will be donated to the local charity If U Care Share Foundation (IUCSF), who provide support around the prevention of suicide and to promote positive mental health in and around the North East of England. The charity was established to bring awareness of the issues around suicide and to deliver services to support those affected by it.

The bands involved have pulled together to honour the life and memory of a key part of our region’s music scene, and Mike Potts from Waheela tells us more about Aran Glover.

Aran Glover was a champion of the underground scene and was always looking to give up-and-coming bands a break. He made some of the most interesting, heavy music around with no compromises. In such tragic circumstances it has been overwhelming to see how much he meant to people and the scene.

The story of our band, our sense of who we are and where we started and so much of what we do now cannot be thought of without thinking of Aran. He believed in us before anyone else. He gave us some of our most memorable shows (Dragger practice room gig still stands as our favourite!) and helped build GNAW fest into what it is today.

We’re excited to give it our all and make some noise for a true original. RIP Aran we miss you. All money raised is going to a great cause If You Care Share, so lets hope we get a great turn out!

The Aran Glover Tribute Show is at Cluny 2, Newcastle on Saturday 12th January.
