We caught up with The Twang‘s Phil Etheridge to find out five songs he loves ahead of their show at O2 Academy, Newcastle on Friday 15th December.

The Streets – Turn The Page
The whole album was game changing really and as important to me as any record by any of the greats.  It was like he was living the same life, especially originally being from Brum as well. Made him one of ours like… we later found out we frequented the same club in Brum regularly as well, which made sense.
This track was kinda my call to arms when setting out to make The Twang happen.
I met him a few years later when he remixed our track ‘Either Way’ for us but we didn’t really click.  Maybe I was trying too hard to be his mate or he just thought I was a knob. Who knows, who cares?  Great track from an amazing album. .

I Am Kloot – Proof
This is like my soundtrack to touring and being out and about dragging round a heavy hangover with me.  One of the most beautiful songs ever written in my opinion.

Super Furry Animals – Something For The Weekend
My wife bought me this on CD single after a holiday we’d been on in Magaluf back in 1998. We’re still together and she’s still on my mind every day and every night.

James – Sometimes
We supported James back before we’d released our first album and it was a magical time for us.  This song was sung many times on the bus and will always remind of that time when it had all started happening. Come together like…  I’d say James and The Smiths were the most played bands on the bus for years much to the annoyance of the crew.  Love um!!

Freak Scene – Dinosaur Jr
Reminds me of being young, skating and the friends I made back then. Around that time Brum had a massive ‘weirdo’ scene and pigeon park was awash with Docs, monkey boots and German parkas every Saturday. We use to pop by and smoke draw or whatever.  Beautiful times.  Stealing mushrooms out of my Brother’s room and generally being a little shit! It’s one of my go-to tracks when I’ve had a few.
