Reliably informed

Ahead of their show at Whirling Dervish on Thursday 15th February, we caught up with Dan from Seprona for a new Bunch Of Fives. Over to you Dan…

When I was wondering what to do for this, I was trying to think of something interesting to chat about, then I saw ‘back to the drawing board’ written down on a piece of paper I walked past, so I thought that’s a good idea to choose 5 expressions, or idioms I think is the correct term, and why I like or dislike them.

A Hot Potato
There’s something really good about this phrase, and something really British about it. I think the thought of a hot potato being something that is awkward or unpleasant to deal with is such a wonderful thing. I get this image of someone trying to pick it up and keep dropping it on the floor.

To Cut A Long Story Short
You know whenever someone says this that they are going to tell you something worthwhile, and they never shorten the story either.

Every Cloud Has A Silver Lining
I think I like this one the most as I think it’s the only one I can think of that is optimistic. When you really think about it and think no matter how shit things get, something good will happen, is something that we need.

Kill Two Birds With One Stone
I love this one, because someone one day must have thought, oh yer, doing two things at once is like killing two birds with one stone. Maybe throwing stones at birds was a big thing back in the olden days though.

Piece Of Cake
Because we all know there’s nothing more simple than walloping down a cake!

Seprona play Whirling Dervish, Middlesbrough on Thursday 15th February.
