New Year New Artist at Sage Gateshead brings together stars of the future from folk, classical, jazz and world music. We get to know one of those, Slow Loris, a little better ahead of their appearance on Friday 18th January.

So, tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?
Sam L – Self-employed musician and guitarist for Slow Loris.
Sam E –  Guitarist in Sloris part-time barista.
Chris – I am Chris Sellers, I play the bass guitar and pedal board.
Theo – My name is Theo Goss and I play drums in Slow Loris.

What’s the first record you ever bought?
Theo – The Hoosiers – The Trick to Life.
Sam L –  The Eminem Show.
Chris  – Bloodbath: Ressurection Through Carnage.
Sam E –  Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath.

What’s your guilty pleasure musically?
Chris –  Drake.
Sam L –  Daniel Beddingfield is one of the guiltiest.
Sam E –  Alice Deejay Better Off Alone, Exceeder Perfect etc.
Theo – Probably some sort of Fusion, one day people will realise how great the Five Peace Band are, but until then its got to stay a guilty pleasure.

Favourite film of all time?
Sam E –  Donnie Darko.
Theo – Spirited Away, but it’s so hard to pick just one!
Sam L –  Flight.
Chris – Lord of The Rings 2.

Your guilty pleasure film?
Sam L –  Tarzan. Best soundtrack ever.
Sam E –  Sister Act.
Theo – Probably superhero films, but obviously only the good ones.
Chris – Over The Hedge.

If you could recommend one TV series to binge watch, what would it be?
Theo – BoJack Horseman, that show alone is worth the Netflix subscription.
Chris – Twin peaks.
Sam L –  Sherlock.
Sam E –  Peep Show or The Office.

Your favourite book?
Chris –  H.G Wells: The Island of Doctor Moreau.
Sam L –  Life of Pi – the first book i almost finished. I’m not much of a reader to be honest.
Sam E –  Requiem for a Dream Hubert Selby jr.
Theo – The Man in the High Castle by Philip K Dick is really great.

Who or what makes you laugh the most?
Sam L – Zooming in on Theo’s face on pictures
Sam E – Watching Sam zoom in on Theo’s face in pictures.
Chris – Theo Goss.
Theo – Spending time with the other Lorises.

Who or what makes you sad?
Theo – Also spending time with the other Lorises to be honest.
Chris – Theo Goss.
Sam E – People who order extra hot, wet, weak, skinny, decaf lattes.
Sam L – Wedding guests spilling their drink all over your pedal board while their shouting at you to play a song you’ve never heard of.

If you had super power, what would it be?
Sam L –  Turn water into strawberry milk.
Chris –  Being good at music.
Sam E –  Earn a living as a musician.
Theo – Being able to fly would be pretty fun, and it might help me to be a bit more punctual?

And finally, you get to play a board game with any three famous people from history, who do you choose and what’s the board game?
Sam E – Monopoly with Alan Watts, Jim Hall, Richard Pryor and Ozzy.
Sam L – Mini-chess tournament with Joni Mitchel, Wes Montgomery and Craig David.
Theo –  Cluedo with Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin.
