Reliably informed

We chat to some of our passionate and dedicated team to find out what they thought of 2020…with some occasionally sweary results! Here, Jay Moussa-Mann tells us about her past twelve months.

Sum up 2020 in three words.

Bring the crazy

Your favourite band/artist of the year?

Amelia Coburn and George Boomsma. These were two of the artists who most stood out to me when I started to discover the Teesside music scene and it’s been wonderful to watch them develop as artists. They never cease to surprise me with their song writing and style.

Your favourite song of the year?

Dublin Serenade – Amelia Coburn. I love how gentle and addictive it is and mostly how it paints such a vivid picture when you hear it. Plus Amelia’s voice is just stunning.

Favourite TV show of the year?

The Office (US). As someone who has always thrived on misery drama, I have found this year that I am unable to take too much serious watching anymore and The Office has just kept me emotionally upbeat. I had never watched this version until now and I feel very lucky to be coming to it when I did.

Best book you read?

How To Be A Brit by George Mikes. George Mikes was born in Hungary 1912. In 1938 he moved to London to become the correspondent for a Hungarian newspaper, and then he never left. Being half Turkish-Cypriot myself and spending my childhood abroad means that even though I am British, I still often struggle to understand British culture. The book is easy to read and had me laughing out loud.  How to plan a town: “Street names should be painted clearly and distinctly on large boards. Then hide these boards carefully.”

Any upcoming artists we should keep an eye out for in 2021?

Lennon Stella, a fabulous Canadian artist. I first discovered her on the TV series Nashville and she has since gone on to create some beautiful music. I would suggest watching her and her sister Maisy sing Call Your Girlfriend from 2012 and then go check out her 2020 song Jealous. A transformation but one that I think works really well.

Predictions for 2021?

The North Yorkshire Moors will still be there 😉 I mean at this point I’m scared to make predictions! I’m pretty sure that one is safe!
