Reliably informed

2017 has been a rather interesting year. We’ve been lucky enough to fill our pages with some incredible creative talent, so we asked a few of them to share some thoughts on the year just gone. We caught up with musician James Leonard Hewitson (who is also the brains behind Endearment Records) to find out a little about his year.

So, how was your 2017?
I would say it was a relatively good one for me.

What was your best moment?
Meeting Jarvis Cocker at Primavera

And your worst moment?
With Jarvis, as I could only name Mac Demarco as the only artist I’d watched all weekend (I had actually watched loads more but was too starstruck to think) and I felt very unoriginal, speaking to a 90s Britpop legend.

Your favourite band of the year?
Mac Demarco

Your favourite song of the year?
Mac Demarco – One More Love Song

Favourite TV of the year?
Made In Chelsea Ibiza when my tune was on it OR Rick and Morty – that really won me over this year.

Your favourite film?
The Big Sick was the only film I watched at the cinema this year, but I liked it, check it out.

Favourite venue of the year?
Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre; we started a pretty cool project there this year, it’s called Town Hall Live and it’s for local bands. It will run throughout next year, and I’m playing at the next event in March 2018!

What was your favourite gig of the year?
To play – headlining The Old Blue Last in London – a bit of a much needed turning point for how I perceived myself as a performer.
To witness – that’s so tough… I get to see so much good stuff. Top 5 no order: Flying Lotus – Primavera, Mac Demarco – Primavera, Sleaford Mods – Primavera, Shellac – Primavera, Pigsx7 – The Cluny.

What gifts are on your letter to Santa this year?
Plectrums dude, so many plectrums.

And finally, what has 2018 got in store for you?
Plenty of studio time is booked for early 2018 and the band is rehearsing and learning new stuff… I don’t know, but we’ll see; should be fun.
