Reliably informed

Robert Lane is set to bring his delicate, folksy music to Newcastle Castle on Friday 6th April. Before that we caught up for a chat to get to know the talented musician a little better…

So, tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?
I’m a singer songwriter from Birmingham.

What’s the first record you ever bought?
I played Sgt Pepper in a school play when I was very small and my mum bought the Sgt Pepper album on cassette so that I could learn the words to the song. Lifelong fascination with The Beatles started there.

What’s your guilty pleasure musically?
There was a band in the late ‘90s called Hepburn, and I maintain that their album has some really great little pop songs on it. No one has ever agreed with me about that though.

Favourite film of all time?
A Bridge Too Far

Your guilty pleasure film?
A Carry On film.

If you could recommend one TV series to binge watch, what would it be?
The Thick of It!

Your favourite book?
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

Who or what makes you laugh the most?
Eric Morecambe

Who or what makes you sad?
The news, most days.

If you had super power, what would it be?
Mind Control

And finally, you get to play a board game with any three famous people from history, who do you choose and what’s the board game?
Gandhi, Dawrin and Julie Walters. We’d be playing Trivial Pursuit.

Robert Lane plays Newcastle Castle on Friday 6th April.
