Jack Fox is a musician (drummer in the Sunderland based rock band Hivemind), rapper (works closely with producer the harbourmaster and has released the lower case mixtape and the lower case ii with him on ACMT Records in 2017) and a stand-up comedian who set a goal of releasing one EP a month in 2018.

On January 1st 2018, Fox released the rock instrumental Bear EP on ACMT Records. On February 1st Fox released Tired & Inspired EP, a 4 track hip-hop EP featuring beats from the North Easts DJ Garl and L.A’s Mellow Thing. Squeaky Wheel was released on 1st March. We caught up with him to find out a little bit more.

What’s the first record you ever bought?
Get Rich or Die Tryin’ by 50 Cent. Mr. Cent has actually been a pretty big influence on my life and music. He’s probably the first artist I got into of my own accord. I’m still a big fan of that album to this day. A classic.

What’s your guilty pleasure musically?
Tough question as I don’t really class any music as a guilty pleasure. But I have to say I’m a bit of a Belieber. Since he’s ‘grown up’ I’ve liked his more hip hop based stuff as opposed to his radio friendly pop stuff. There’s a couple of his tunes on my bangers playlist for the car

Favourite film of all time?
I’ve always found this question difficult. Normally I’d say it depends what mood I’m in, but Goodfellas usually ends up coming out on top. Ya fuckin’ mutt!

Your guilty pleasure film?
Not even sure if it’s classed as a guilty pleasure but Wall-E is an absolutely amazing piece of cinema.

If you could recommend one TV series to binge watch, what would it be?
My favourite TV series of all time is, and always will be, The Sopranos (see Goodfellas as favourite film). But I understand that’s a bit heavy to binge watch. That’s not to say I haven’t watched an entire series in a day when I should definitely be doing something more important. However, as far as binge-friendly TV series goes I’d have to say Seinfeld. I can, and do, watch those episodes on a continuous loop. These pretzels are making me thirsty!!!

Your favourite book?
I like reading autobiographies. The last book I bought was Whitney Cummings – I’m Fine & Other Lies. I also really like comedy books, it’s probably an unpopular opinion but I really enjoyed reading Woody Allen’s books. Side Effects is pretty damn hilarious.

Who or what makes you laugh the most?
My friends, without a doubt. Being a stand-up comedian (available for weddings and bar mitzvahs, by the way) I see a lot of funny people quite often, but there’s still nothing funnier to me that sitting with your friends and just chatting about everything and nothing. My friends and I have a lot of private/in jokes that no one else can possibly understand. They’re my favourite kinds of jokes.

Who or what makes you sad?
This is a vague and redundant answer because I’m pretty sure most good natured people feel this way but racism, sexism and homophobia just really really really piss me off. I feel like a bit of an idiot pointing that out because – duh! But it’s 2018, man. C’umon. We haven’t got time for that stuff.

If you had super power, what would it be?
Definitely the ability to fly. I know Superman and Batman like to hide their real identities but wouldn’t it be great to be known as the guy that can fly? And when anybody stops me in the street to talk about it – I’d just fly away! Suckers!

And finally, you get to play a board game with any three famous people from history, who do you choose and what’s the board game?
The person that got me into playing music, John Frusciante. The person who’s mindset, drive and ambition I admire, Sir Alex Ferguson. The third one was a tough choice, I wanted to pick a comedian and since the comedian who got me into comedy is currently in a spot of hot water (and rightly so) I’ll go for another one of my comedic influences who just so happens to be my celebrity crush, Amy Schumer.
And of course the board game has to Monopoly, c’umon. The king of all board games! Cheers!
