Reliably informed

Over the past twelve months, our magazine and website have been brimming with super-talented, creative souls. We’ve asked a few of them to tell us about their 2020 and offer a few tips about great stuff they’ve seen, watched and read.

Here, Teesside’s indie pop songwriter Finn Forster tells us about his 2020…

Sum up 2020 in three words

What the fuck

What skills did you learn in lockdown?

I really had to take a hold of production skills and DIY recording. I did a load of it for the recording and production of my debut EP Lockdown B-sides and most recent single Time. It’s mad how when given money other choice but to really dig deep and get it alone at home, it gets done. I luckily had my lead guitarist, Billy Smith on board as well to send things to via email or discuss on Zoom. The whole process was new skills to me personally.

Your favourite band/artist of the year?

Blanco White

Favourite TV show of the year?

The Fall

Best book you read?

Personal Coaching for Results by Lou Tice

Venue you are looking forward to performing at next year?

Surf Cafe Tynemouth

What was your favourite gig/live stream event?

Raising over £500 for the Great North Air Ambulance service was a great livestream of mine! I played an Irish gig around St Patrick’s day the week just before lockdown too. That was different but unreal for me to play accompanied with Parissa Nasfari on violin.

Any upcoming artists we should keep an eye out for in 2021?

Jack Craggs is an extremely talented guy. No doubt some big stuff will be coming his way. My main guys who play in my bands project too, they go by the name Moon Wax. Coming out with tunes that constantly raise the bar. Incredibly refreshing.

Predictions for 2021?

Vaccine, life music blossoming like it did in the 60’s, a new appreciation from both artists and fans that really kicks off the post pandemic era. I live my life on optimism and opportunism. Can you tell?

And finally, have you got anything in the pipeline for next year?

I honestly have that much in the pipeline it feels like my mind is equivalent to when you have 100 tabs open on your computer. I’m in the best position I’ve ever been in so far and it’s finally feeling like all the hard graft is paying off.
