Reliably informed

2016 saw Newcastle based, Irish punk trio Good Friend release their debut album Ride The Storm on US label Red Scare Industries; and what an album it was. With widespread praise in both the UK and the States, big things are expected of the band, who christened their sound lion-hearted rock and roll. With such a great year for the band, Adam Keys caught up with Good Friend guitarist Andy Reid to discuss his top five punk albums of 2016.

‘Picking my 5 top punk albums of the year is dam near impossible. What a year it’s been! In this moment I’ll give you 5 in no particular order, each of these will blow your mind!’

The Falcon – Gather up The Chaps
The Falcon are one hell of a band. Brendan Kelly’s raspy vocals are the cherry on top of this fast as fuck album which will kick the dick clean off you!

Violent Soho- Waco
Probably my new favourite band, think Nirvana meets Dinosaur Pile-Up. Had a bad day at work? No problem, this album scratches that musical itch that others won’t even touch

NOFX – First Ditch Effort
This album reminded me what it was like to first discover NOFX. The opening track; six years on Dope in my opinion is up there with old school NOFX songs such as Linoleum and Dinosaurs Will Die. It’s pretty rad

Against Me- Shape Shift With Me
Laura Jane Grace today is one of punk rock’s most iconic characters. Take the long way home and listen to this album from start to finish, you won’t be disappointed.

MakeWar- Developing A Theory of Integrity
Our fellow label buddies on Red Scare have brought out this juicy, anthem filled, sing-along masterpiece. A true party album! I just love these guys and you will too, check them out now!

There’s plenty of tasty, racing punk goodness to get your teeth into! Be sure to check out Good Friend’s debut album, which is available now on Spotify. The band will be playing a headline show at Alphabetti Theatre on Friday 27th January. Make sure you check these guys out!
