Reliably informed

In the continuation of our regular feature, Sam Grant from heavy doom rockers Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (that’s Pigs x 7, for those who can’t be bothered to count) dispels the myths and creates more rumours…

1. Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs have played a total of 14 gigs, and driven to a 15th (though we didn’t make it to that one), and have covered a total of approximately 3530 miles. That equates to around 235miles per gig, or about 7 miles for every minute played. As such, we can work out that Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs perform at around 420mph, which you’ll agree is pretty fast.

2. We’re called Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, because, when we finally achieve the level of success we deserve as a group – when we can get away from the North East and shake off the essence of working class, lose the heavy accents, get a few albums out there collectively, followed by a few solo albums, and eventually return to the North East for a couple of unconvincing duets with Jimmy Nail – we should hopefully have a brand awareness ripe for productisation, and that should put us in a prime position for considerable financial gain – things like fragrances (l’eau du Pig, etc.), and probably things like mugs, and caps. And we’ll reissue that game where you have to pick up the little plastic pigs, but each one will be personified to match each one of us, as per our then styles.

3. When travelling to gigs further afield, given a lot of time is spent in the car, we occasionally delve into the David Icke back catalogue of talks on YouTube, as they’re full of useful insights. His creative use of inductive reasoning is exciting. Bonus fun fact: Johnny has only sat in the front seat once to go to a Pigs gig.

4. Pigs owe a debt of gratitude to our friends, the psychedelic vanguards, The Cosmic Dead, for introducing us to what has become our band juice of choice, Buckfast. It provides a sharp learning curve though, I regrettably broke Johnny’s foot after an early delve into the Buckfast dark arts at a Glasgow gig. Just over a year later may this be a formal public apology. I’m sorry Johnny. Buckfast is the milk of the rock gods.

5. Adam Ian Sykes, who plays really great guitar solos in the band, keeps the lyrics to John Farnham’s You’re The Voice on a piece of paper folded up in his guitar gig bag. He’s had them since secondary school.

See Pigs x7 at Head of Steam, Newcastle on Friday 12th December, with support from BIG FAIL and Apologies.
