Today’s Doorstep Interview comes courtesy of indie band Offpeak, from County Durham.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Who are you, where are you from?
We are Offpeak, we’re a rock/indie band from County Durham, featuring Jamie Pick (Vocals), Robbie Pick (Guitar) Kier Hutchinson (Bass) and Jackson Raw (Drums). We started out in March 2013 messing around in a local rehearsal room playing cover songs of Oasis, The Verve, Stereophonics and Radiohead. We then realised we enjoyed playing music and Robbie had previously written his own songs so we decided to learn them.

What inspired you to first start making music?
We originally started as a joke, something else to do on a weekend. But Robbie had a few songs he had written and they didn’t sound too bad. We practised every weekend so we got tighter and performed our first gig in December 2013 at Esh Winning Football Club and we loved it. We wrote more music and practised more and gradually got better and better. Now three years later we are set to release our debut EP and go on our first UK tour.

Who would you say are your biggest influences?
Noel Gallagher and old blues guitarists.

How would you describe your sound?
Four guys with a big sound!

Tell us a bit about your live performances. What can we expect from a gig by you?
Playing live we like to get the audience moving; we don’t want to be some boring band you fall asleep watching, you would also witness the best live guitar solos in the UK!

Can you tell us what gigs you have planned in the region in the near future?
We only have our EP release night at Think Tank? on Saturday 27th February. This is also the final date of our first UK tour.

What do you think has been your biggest achievement so far as a band?
Our biggest achievement so far has to be our single launch night we held at the O2 Academy, Newcastle in July last year, and our first headline show in London in August last year. Those two gigs got us motivated to get off to a good start to 2016.

Have there been any major challenges so far in your musical career?
When we first started the band our original drummer left after a year to concentrate on his career, at that point we either called it a day or got a new drummer, we were lucky enough to get Jackson on the drums and it’s been the best decision we have made.

What else have you got planned for the future?
After the EP release we will go on to release another single or even another EP in July this year and slowly conquer the music industry!

Offpeak play Think Tank?, Newcastle on Saturday 27th February.
