Reliably informed

Released: 22.09.17

Having been out of the black metal game for several years – the band largely retreating following 2011’s Celestial Lineage, synth-driven curio Celestite aside – Thrice Woven finds Wolves in the Throne Room returning at a time where interest in black metal has never been greater, but where USBM peers like Agalloch have fallen to the wayside.

While there’s much for fans of the genre to enjoy here, Thrice Woven makes for a slightly frustrating experience. Where the choral and ambient interludes on previous records were a vital part of the experience, here it comes close to hedge-betting from a band that can still produce ferocious metal (just check the doomy The Old Ones Are With Us) but doesn’t seem entirely interested in doing so.
