It’s all change for White Hills – new producer, new studio, new writing style – and it’s paid off big time. Walks For Motorists still has the occasional blast of the acid-drenched space rock that has been their signature style for more a decade, but it also has stomping ur-beat chants with a Longfellow quote as a chorus (No Will), whacked out analogue synth paeans to LSD (£50 Or USB) and something close to a political screed on Wanderlust. At times, the duo’s pouty over-seriousness threatens to topple the whole project, but somehow that’s part of their considerable charm. Even more than the recent Moon Duo album, White Hills have embraced their inner groove and it’s a whole lot of trippy fun.
