We Are Scientists have become as much known for their humorous live shows and interviews as they have for their music, which is rooted deep in an 80’s British new wave indie sound.

That was ok when they were releasing records as great as With Love & Squalor and Brain Thrust Mastery but the joke has worn a little thin here.  Lyrically the themes continue as they always have, the likes of the mournful Too Late dealing with the grittier side of love and sex.  The layered guitars threaten to become overwhelming on Buckle and they’re surprisingly better when they slow it down on tracks like the tender love song, We Need A Word and the acoustic Want For Nothing.
