Laura Doyle reviews the new release from the Scottish pop punks
VKVI Records
Released: 24.01.20
Since the release of their self-titled debut album three years ago, Scottish pop punkers Vukovi have been steadily clawing their way up the musical ladder. Through hard grit and grim determination, their sound has gone from exceptional for a fledgling band, to truly exceptional: their follow-up record Fall Better is proof of that.
Loud but melodic, angsty but heartfelt, and fun in the most serious way, vocalist Janine Shilstone and guitarist Hamish Reilly have managed to pull off a meshing of pop tune catchiness and rugged hard rock sensibilities. Whether it’s edgy lead single C.L.A.U.D.I.A’s riff-charged sonic explosion, or the melody-driven subtlety of I’m Sorry, every track on Fall Better couldn’t have been constructed by anyone other than Vukovi.
