East London’s Tigercats make pop music and there’s plenty here to make for a decent enough record. The guitar playing is exceptional throughout, accompanied by fine use of keyboards and horns. There’s no lack of hooks whilst the backing vocals are reminiscent of Los Campesinos! at their most twee on Junior Champion. Alas, it’s all mid-tempo with limited lead vocals so becomes a bit samey. Indeed, the wonderful Sleeping In The Backseat sees keyboardist Laura take lead vocal and it’s by far the strongest song here. All in all it’s a promising sophomore record, with just that little something missing. If they can find what it is, they’re onto a winner. Just a little too much cat, not enough tiger.
