Paisley’s The Vegan Leather have pulled a rabbit out of the hat on their debut album (if, of course, it’s alright for Vegans to pull rabbits out of hats…), as they ably demonstrate a unique taste for funky pop music and great songs.

In parts so sickly sweet it’ll give you toothache, Poor Girls/Broken Boys blends 80s Duran Duran pop funk with 80s Talking Heads Afrofunk to create an album designed for the dancefloor but cleverly layered with below-the-surface messages about personal accountability and the struggle for existence, making for a brilliant and sharp debut.
