I find myself writing this review on the hottest day of the year so far and the shiny happy pop debut from San Francisco’s underground DIY act The Umbrellas matches the weather. This is a feel good set of jolly tracks that put a smile on my face.

Recent single She Buys Herself Flowers captures the carefree, independent spirit and the positive mindset of exciting possibilities that permeates through this collection. The tracks have both male and female lead lyrics over the psychedelic power pop guitars. Even the lyrically sad opener Lonely has such happy music jangling over the potentially weepy words that the separation discussed feels like it must be a positive move. The Umbrellas is a joyous album that feels satisfying.
