With real energy and passion, the opening track All I Hear announces “No, you can’t resist the change” and so the evolution of Manchester outfit The Slow Readers Club continues with their fourth album.

The uncluttered syncopated guitar sound rings out on tracks like Jericho and No Surprise, and singer Aaron Starkie delivers interesting lyrics covering life in the 2020s, from classic pop themes of love and alienation through to the rise of right-wing populism and algorithm generation propaganda. The momentum of the guitar-driven melodies, over the top of urgent percussion, keeps up the pace throughout the album. In Zero Hour the sound becomes more expansive and it is that contrast between later tracks that helps make this an interesting release.
