Robin Webb discovers an album of blistering urgency and originality from The OBGMs
Black Box
Released: 30.10.20
“This is a Black-fronted punk band, and that’s really important.” Mic drop…
Frontman Densil McFarlane wants you to pick that mic up, shout out loud and rage. This album is very important and I can just imagine with hope the next generation of young black kids hearing this, seeing the band and thinking ‘yes I want to do that’.
As well as being important musically right now, not only for the band itself but also for a largely tepid North American punk (pop) scene as a whole, which has sadly lacked this album’s blistering urgency and originality epitomising ground-breaking high points of the 80s and 90s. Enter Toronto punks The OBGMs.
