The Goon Sax are a resplendently named band of Brisbane teenagers whose second offering, We’re Not Talking, is a charming, off-kilter collection of defiantly upbeat, angst-ridden, guitar pop.

Lead single Make Time 4 Love is undeniably one of the best pop songs you’ll hear this year; shifting effortlessly from malaise to endearing sentiment in a little over two minutes. In their softer moments, The Goon Sax evoke an antipodean Belle and Sebastian (as well as the inevitable comparisons to compatriots The Go-Betweens) and whilst We’re Not Talking could have been the soundtrack to an Edgar Wright coming-of-age movie, you ought to enjoy it for what it is – a little bit of joy that shouldn’t pass you by.
