It’s less than a year since The Drink released Company, a set of songs pitched as their debut album but actually representing a compilation of their early EPs.

As before, the power of the songs on second(ish) album Capital hinges on the interplay between Dearbhla Minogue’s bewitching vocal and the rangy, abstract instrumental accompaniments, with Hair Trigger a lovely example of this. As assured as Company’s songs were, this really feels like a stepping up of the game, oozing pure confidence.

The pulsating weirdo-disco of You Won’t Come Back At All is a major highlight, commanding the heart and the feet all at once. This lot are one of the most beautifully creative bands we’ve got, so let’s cherish them.
