In the two years since they declared that ‘psych is dead’, The Cosmic Dead seem to have mutated into something far more fearsome and magnificent. Sure, opener Portal begins in an unsettling lysergic haze but by the end of its 21 minutes it’s become utterly batshit, in the best Butthole Surfers sense of the word.

Ursa Major is the most traditionally psych track here, pelting along in a hypnotic manner, while closer The Grizzard finds the Hawkwind-esque middle ground between those two. But the title track? Fuck me, the title track. This might be my favourite song of the year. 12 minutes of huge riffs, lap steel frenzy and a bunch of Bucky-drunk hairfarmers shouting “CAN YOU DIG IT” for ages. What more could you want?
