David Smith, aka The ÆTHER, is back living in the North East after five years studying music in Bath. This new album is inspired by Ólafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Cinematic Orchestra and Boards of Canada and lyrically and thematically inspired by Alphaville by Jean-Luc Godard, and comes across like a soundtrack to a film that only exists in David’s mind.

The delicate music can, in the case of tracks like Helplessly Afraid, have a sinister undertone; it could be the opening track of a BritFlick crime drama as it sets up the suspense. The haunting piano returns on All In My Head to create an emotional landscape; meanwhile, the expansive feel of Save Me matches the potential cinematography of the big screen.
