Reverbed drums, hazy vocals and an energising opening titled Nightwalker, sets the tone perfectly on synth pop duo Tempers’ new album, New Meaning.

It’s an LP that is stuffed with intricate details within the instrumentation, such as the unnerving sounds of Multitude, creating a vintage soundscape and recalling memories of driving at night. The more the sounds of New Meaning engulfed me, the more the distorted, shoegaze-like vocals took a back seat. Instead, feeling as though they were another instrument within the mix. This did sometimes create the feeling that something was missing, yet it reminded me that music doesn’t always have to be deep or complex, sometimes it’s better to enjoy the hypnotic ride.
